| Petra Mathers was born in Germany. She first moved to the United States as a young woman and lived in Portland, Oregon and later on the Oregon coast. Petra had been an apprentice in the book business in Germany, and when she moved to the United States, she helped out a friend who owned a children's book store. Petra realized how much she loved picture books from helping her friend. She is an illustrator first, and a writer second. While she brews a story of her own on some burner in the back of her mind, she is busy illustrating other people's books. Four-time recipient of The New York Times Best Illustrated Books for Children award, Petra is the illustrator of more than thirty three books, for children, including her Lottie Books. |
